Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite Officially Announced in China

Xiaomi has extended its Mi 8 series of smartphones today by announcing the Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite phones in China. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro features a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint reader and a transparent rear panel like the Mi 8 Explorer Edition smartphone that was unveiled in May. On the other hand, the Mi 8 Lite is a stripped-down version of Xiaomi Mi 8 which was also announced in May.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro Specifications, Features and Pricing

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro features a 6.21-inch OLED notched screen that produces Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2248 pixels. The Snapdragon 845 chipset powers the 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM variants of the Mi 8 Pro. For expanding the storage, it features a microSD card slot. The 3,000mAh battery of the phone carries support for Quick Charge 4+.

A vertical dual camera setup is present on the back panel of the phone. It includes an f/1.8 aperture 12-megapixel primary sensor and f/2.4 aperture 12-megapixel secondary sensor. The dual cameras offer features like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and optical zoom. There is a 20-megapixel camera available on the front of the Mi 8 Pro. The handset is preinstalled with MIUI 10 based Android 8.1 Oreo.

In May, Xiaomi had announced the limited-edition Mi 8 Explorer Edition alongside the Mi 8. The newly announced device bears resemblance with the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, but there are some differences between both smartphones.

The Mi 8 Explorer Edition features 3D facial recognition features which works like Apple’s Face ID. The Mi 8 Pro’s notch on the other hand is equipped with infrared facial recognition technology, which is not as advanced as the 3D face scanning feature. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is the first Xiaomi phone to come with an in-display fingerprint reader. The Mi 8 Pro offers its users with pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint scanner which is 29 percent faster and 8.8 percent more accurate than the one on the Mi 8 Explorer Edition.

The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is packed with a larger 3,400mAh battery and it can be availed in an 8 GB RAM variant only. The Mi 8 Pro has a smaller battery, but it comes in 8 GB and 6 GB RAM options.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro can be bought in two color gradient hues such as Twilight Gold and Ochre Black. The 6 GB and 8 GB Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro variants are respectively priced at 3,199 Yuan (~Rs. 33,750) and 3,599 Yuan (~Rs. 37,950). The pre-orders of the phone have already started in the home market and its first sale will take place on 21st September.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Specifications, Features and Pricing

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite features a 6.26-inch IPS LCD notched display that produces FHD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. It is fueled by a Snapdragon 660 chipset. It includes a 3,350mAh battery that carries support for Quick Charge 3.0. The handset is also loaded with MIUI 10 flavored Android 8.1 Oreo OS.

The Mi 8 Lite which is a toned-down edition of the Xiaomi Mi 8 features horizontal dual camera, instead of a vertical dual camera system. The Mi 8 Lite is equipped with f/1.9 aperture 12-megapixel + f/2.0 5-megapixel dual rear cameras. The Sony IMX576 24-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture is present inside the notch of the phone. It is enabled with Ai Smart Beauty for shooting photos and videos. The rear panel of the smartphone features a fingerprint scanner.

The Xioami MI 8 Lite has also arrived in three colors such as Twilight Gold, Dream Blue and Black. The different variants of the Mi 8 Lite are 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. These models are respectively priced at 1399 Yuan (Rs.14.750), 1,599 Yuan (~Rs. 16,660) and 1,699 Yuan (~Rs. 27,100). The pre-booking of the smartphone has started in China and it is slated to hit the market on 25th September.
